Technology and Thematic Units

I am currently working on a thematic unit about penguins for my curriculum class. In designing my lesson technology has been a huge asset. I opened one lesson up using an animoto slide show to grab the students attention. Another lesson I am going to have my students prepare a podcast to present the research they found on penguins. Just today I came across a penguinwiki, called a million penguins. Is a wikinovel experiment where anyone can write and anyone can edit a novel-in-progress. I thought what a fantastic idea, my students can form a culminating story online about penguins.

Hi everyone, the purpose of this blog is to educate others about myself and the importance of technology in the classroom for my Education 618 Instructional Computer Integration class.

My name is Sarah, I am 25 year old graduate student at Chatham University, in Pittsburgh, Pa. I am working on my Masters of Arts in Teaching, Elementary and Special Education

I am a pittsburgh girl at heart and love every and all things Pittsburgh!

I received my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.

I currently live in Shadyside with my best friends from high school and my Pitt Bull Tiarra.

I am really excited to start my student teaching in the fall at Mt. Lebanon School District.

I will be teaching 8 weeks of third grade at Washington Elementary and 8 weeks of Special Education at the Mt. Lebanon High School.

I hope to utilize many of the cool web 2.0 programs we are learning in this class during my student teaching
